Alcorn Endorses Huckabee

  1. Jill’s Father is reading Heaven by Alcorn – we talked about it after dinner last night. He eats with us a lot now – our privilege and God’s grace.

  2. I haven’t read the book, so allow me to make a critical comment. I wish the title was different…heaven popularly implies a form of gnosticism where spiritual is better than physical. I know Alcorn ends up with a good “new earth” theology, which is absolutely correct, but can we call that something other than heaven?

  3. Honest, I had the same thought.

But, I wonder if it wasn’t more of a marketing thing – – – I mean if you put “New Earth” down would it generate the same interest as Heaven.

In fact, he spends a lot of time clarifying this very point.

So, I guess it comes down to whether or not it is legitimate to live with sloppy vocabulary (or wrong vocabulary) and then try and teach them after you get them to pick up the book.

One thing is for sure – – we must get beyond correct so much of our theology that is shaped more by Plato than by a biblical worldview. We will spend eternity in a new earth. As Ladd said, God’s people have an earthly destination.

In the last 20 years, I have seen a tremendous increase in this area of understanding. Mike Wittmer’s book or Albert Wolters have been tremendously helpful.

Alcorn’s book is another along these lines. You really need to spend some of your massive book allowance at GLBC to get it.
