Team Sunday

Would you agree that athletics offer a strategic opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ?

At their best, sports teach young people how to be disciplined and work hard.  Teams build close friendships.  Athletics teach young people to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

And, as we process, any of these areas with athletes and young people there is also the chance to talk to them about the Lord Jesus Christ.  Sports are one of the best chances we today to tell people about Christ.

This year our church is again hosting a special Team Sunday at 9:00 AM on Sunday August 26.  Our goal is to help young people see that sports should be about more than physical conditioning.  The Apostle Paul said,

For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come (1 Ti 4:8).”

Our special speaker this year is Tim Johnson.  Tim is a member of the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame and a color commentator for ESPN.  He was the director of wrestling at the 1984 Olympics and he is the Midwest Regional Director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could see the beginning of a vibrant FCA ministry in Northern Illinois?

Be our guest at the Red Brick Church in Stillman Valley on August 26.  Our service that day is at 9:00 AM.  Our web site is, http://www.theredbrickchurch.org/.
