Our pumpkins are doing so well! My good stewart ship of the earth is growing faster than ever. I can’t wait until they will be big round and orange. If anyone has any questions,ideas,or anything to say about the garden\farm they are welcome to make a coment on this post.
I was away at church camp for a week. I really enjoyed walking around the paths and seeing God’s creation. Mr. and Mrs. Windle (and they know Harry) taught us a way to pray:

I’ve been interested in gardening since I was younger than you…..my great grandmother and grandfather were avid gardeners and I loved going to see them & ask questions since one was into flowers and the other veggies! Covers alot of garden territory! Now, even tho’ I’m much older, I still love gardening and am still learning and am excited EVERY day to go ck how my garden is doing! Btw, my grandparents were from Iowa too :)) I’m AMAZED at how much your pumpkins have grown since I saw them at Allie’s party. Maybe SOMEone could bring you to see my garden – I think we could have a great time talking garden! Keep posting updates! Betts

Hi Marybeth! Your pumpkins have really grown since I saw them just a few weeks ago. Are you getting rain or do you have to water your plants? We are praying for some rain here soon. We had a storm on June 16th but it has been dry ever since. Our sweet corn is tasseling and hopefully it will do well this year. It is fun to see your garden’s progress. I hope you will keep posting updates!
Your pumpkins look great! We have a couple of pumpkin vines that are starting to flower and we can’t wait to start seeing the fruit! I’m very thankful for all you’ve learned at camp, thank you for sharing!

I just wanted to tell you that I’m so impressed with your pumpkins! I live and try to garden in a crazy zone, -30 to +100 degrees, and I’ve never had a pumpkin that actually made it to the big, round, orange stage.
Zucchini, however, grows no matter what. Remember that verse in Philippians that says, “whatosever state I am, therewith to be content”? (KJV) That’s the attitude of a zucchini: if it’s hot, they’re happy, if it’s cold, they’re happy, if it’s wet, they’re happy, if it’s dry, they’re happy. And they put forth abundant fruit. Embarrassingly abundant fruit. In fact, if YOU have any ideas for zucchini for me, please send them because I just counted 10 baby zucchini on my plants this morning…a veritable plague! Help!

Marybeth, one more thing I keep forgetting to ask…..have you heard of growing veggies into “shapes”? Here’s one link to learn a little about it…..some people even grow cucumbers in jars which is pretty cool. Wait ’til you see a pumpkin one man grew. There are so many ideas and things I’d like to do if there was time. Now I know why my Mom always called me a “piddler” because that still describes me well. 🙂 I know your Dad will love to help with any garden experiments you think sound fun….mine was great that way too! Well Mary I have not planted zuchini before,try not to get water on the leaves as much as possible. But I still do not know very well. Do you have any other plants in Montana. Try rosemary. All you have to do is soak it in water,then let it dry out completely. If you want to plant something I would recomand books not the internet. The reason is the internet does not give exact detail all the time.
for example usally the internet does not tell you to not get the leaves wet on tomatoes however in a book it says do not get the leaves wet on tomatoes.
I really enjoy gardening. It is hard but in the end you make AMAZING progress. Anyone should be given the chance to garden but they do not I should do a post on that. Or something related. gtg . Ttyl I am going to my g-ma’s will not talk much. have a good night

We can grow many vegetables and flowers in Montana, but we need to start the vegetables indoors, for the most part, and watch the zones on the flowers. We’re Zone 2b or 3 where I live. We have killing cold winds and extreme heat and drought on the flip side. It a plant can grow in Russia, it can grow here.
I’m so glad you recommend gardening books! What have you read? My favorites are Barbara Damrosch’s “A Garden Primer” and a book called “People With Dirty Hands” but I can’t remember the author. Ms. Damrosch’s book is VERY informative and the Dirty Hands book is about different gardeners and their stories.
The problem with zucchini is not in the growing of them, but the harvesting. They produce TOO MANY little squash! (I think perhaps they’re called “summer squash” where you live.) I need recipes and ideas for what to do with them when I harvest! I’ll take pictures of my zucchini, so you can see what I’m talking about.
I wonder if the vegetable shapes would work with THOSE?

Mary this is the morning before i go to my grandma’s. But anyways what else do you do in Montana,do you like to cook? I love to cook! sometimes simple thing too,
such as brownies,hot chocolate,cupcakes,cakes,rice crispy treats,and a lot other stuff
but I guess hot chocolate does not count. I like to cook hard things a lot too. Mary did you know that when you are making sunny side up eggs that when you are about too but the lid on the pan you can take a little bit of water in the lid (but not too much) and then put the lid on with the water.
When I was at summer camp at the camp out for desert we had banana boats. For banana boats you take a banana,and you peal one side then you scoop out some of the banana and fill it with peanut butter. Next you put mini marshmallows on top then mini chocolate chips. The last thing is to but tin foil around it thin put it in the fire. When it gets a little brown in the fire you take it out it tastes sooo good!

I am curious if you are going to supply Allie and Alex with pumpkins for thier annual pumpkin carving contest? I figured then you get to be the judge of who’s is best. We never get a real winner because both of them claim victory!!! Great job, and I look forward to your next post.

She went to Grandma’s, but I think she is planning to sell them. Alex may get a discount. But prob not Allie. She may ask you to retail them at your place of business.
Well I probably will provide the pumpkins if we have extra. if not then…I do not know. Well i not they will be my second priority.(my family first). My grandpa said we will have a lot,and dad who said anything about discounts. But I may give then one. Allison too.

I am at my grandma’s,going to go swimming at a local pool. I am reminded that god is so great that he can through other people make pools,and he made water. I am so glad he did. Also he gave us the ability to swim. Those are some great things he did.

Marybeth, you are SO right about God knowing how much pleasure water would give us! In fact, I even garden in water. I’ve learned there are many kinds of plants that grow well in water. Of course that means I have fish to enjoy and all the birds and other wildlife that love getting in water. I’ll send you, via your Mom’s email,a short Flip video I took of some deer in my “bog”. I mostly grow flowers but have a couple tomato plants and cucumber vines. I tried beans but they won’t grow near walnut trees. I love all my trees but I miss not being able to have a vegetable garden. I hope someone is giving your garden a drink of water ’til you get home from your Grandma’s. Have fun!
