Did you know there are 44 million vulnerable children in India?

Would you look at Elaine’s picture, and read the below story about children in India, and pray in a special way that the Gospel would increasingly shine throughout the world?

Recently, I went to see Elaine so I could get my picture taken with Bananas the monkey. (I’m the one on the right. Elaine is holding Bananas). Bananas lives in Elaine’s kindergarten class. But he takes turns going to their houses and has stories to tell upon his return. Where Curious George had the “man in the yellow hat,” Bananas has Elaine.

Last week, Elaine discerned that Bananas would like to meet a pastor. Bananas was stuck with me. So I went by Elaine’s house and her parents clicked a picture.

I can’t think of anything I have enjoyed more as a pastor. One of my favorite parts of being a pastor is having a relationship with the children in our church. I look forward to seeing children with their moms and dads and grandpas and grandmas. It brings great joy to shepherd little girls and boys.

Not only does it bring great joy to shepherd children, it also makes it easy to get enthused about missions. When I see the children in our church, and consider what is happening to children elsewhere in the world, I begin to pray more fervently that God will stir in our church to be a part of bringing children hope.

Did you know that there are 44 million vulnerable children in India?

One of the ministries our church is involved in is, As Our Own: “A Christ-based, community driven movement in India that rescues children from certain enslavement and cares for them as our own.” Recently, “As Our Own,” responded to the question, “What happens to girls who graduate from your program?” Here is the reponse:

That’s one of our favorite questions . . . because the answer is a favorite to give! The truth is the girls never graduate—we are family for life. This is why Mother’s Day is so meaningful to us.
Like many young women, our daughters dream of becoming moms someday. And like any parent, we pray Christ would continually strengthen and equip us to model this role well for her.
We pray a new legacy will start with her life and be carried on through the lives of her children and grandchildren. We have witnessed God break binding cycles of poverty and slavery in the lives of our daughters. He has replaced deceptive circumstances with His truth and redemption. This is exactly why the life story of our daughter Shanti is especially stunning.

  1. Thank you for posting about these girls so dear to my heart (including that little blond one with dimples). And thank you for taking time from your day to pose with Elaine and Bananas–who knew Bananas could impact world missions?! 🙂

  2. The children of our church bring Jamie and me such joy. I pray that we will increasingly find joy in serving the children of the world.

  3. Thanks, Chris, for sharing from your heart. Alice and Elaine and Lucy and Darren hold a special place in our heart and we cry out with you that the Church would stand up and be moved to action for the 44 million children in India and others around the globe.
