Doug Moo summarizes why we should be stoked to hear Romans 8 preached:
Romans 8 has been called the “inner sanctuary” within the cathedral of Christian faith.” It sets before us some of the most wonderful blessings we enjoy as believers: being free from God’s condemnation, indwelt by God’s own Spirit, adopted into his family, destined for resurrection and glory, and full of hope because of God’s love for us and because of his promise to bring good to us in every circumstance of life.
I love Romans 8. It’s easily my favorite passage. But I often wonder if I REALLY believe it. Do I really believe that God works ALL things for my good? On Tuesday I had to replace a tire because I had run over a screw and I found myself angry that God would let this happen. I believed in his sovereignty but I didn’t believe in his goodness. Somehow, this event was for my good. If I had believed that I would have spent that time rejoicing that rather than complaining.
I’m with you Chris. I wonder if I REALLY believe there is NO condemnation for those who are in Christ. Or, do I slip back into works based thinking.. ..
I have been thinking of preaching through Romans 8. This latest post settles it.
