Cell Phone Trivia: Who is the only teenager in the Western Hemisphere without a Cell phone?
Answer: My daughter Allison. She is an 8th grader and she has assured me that she remains as the last teenager standing without a cell phone.
So, we’ve had a talk or two about cell phones. And, my problem is not fundamentally with the money (forgetting where much of her money comes from, she has offered to pay) , nor is it with her having her own number.
My concern about her getting a phone it isn’t even so much about her talking on the thing.
My greater concern is this continual texting (which even though she doesn’t have a phone of her own, she can do at the speed of light on her mom’s phone). As I have told her, how one communicates, the method, shapes who we are.
Turns out that there is an article in the New York Times today about texting, which I plan to print off for our next discussions about having a cell phone.
And, I suppose, one of these days my daughter will have a phone.
Funny Thing.
Caleb is certain that when he becomes a teen, he will take Allison’s place as the last teenager with out a cell phone.
