We are rescued, then we obey (not vice versa)

Cornelius Plantinga:

Moses emerges with God’s Ten Commandments, a set of requirements that people have to fulfill not in order to get rescued by God from slavery, but because they have been rescued.

Stated succinctly, the imperative of the Christian life (be godly) follows the indicative (we have been freed from sin).

  1. Kellar beautifully made this point in his Gospel Coalition message on Christ in the Exodus.

Also soul stirring was the point he made that it is the object of your faith that matters and not the quality when he said that some undoubtedly walked through the parted sea in wonder and others in fear, but if went across they both were saved alike.
