Why is there suffering in the world today? Think about your answer before suffering comes.

Greg Laurie’s son died tragically in a car accident in the summer of 2008.  So, when I saw that he was interacting with Randy Alcorn about why there is suffering, I was very interested in the dialogue.  (Read more here).

For all of us, it’s better to think through suffering in advance . . .

  1. Thanks for this, Chris. I could not help but think of Acts 2:23-24:
“This man [Jesus] was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.”

I propose the two words “But God” are the most important two words in the Bible in giving us the right starting point for how to think about evil and suffering (see also, Eph. 2:4, ESV).
