This morning I have been writing a critical chapter in my book on forgiveness. It is one in which I consider the nature of the atonement and how God forgives Christians. Of course, this is pivotal for any book on forgiveness given that God expects us to forgive one another as he forgave us (Eph 4:32).
It struck me in writing how thankful I am for the blogs on the atonement that I have followed on Adrian Warnock’s site, Peter Kirk, and others.
I know that in writing this chapters I chose my words far more carefully. In particular, I was careful to not diminish the deity of Christ. This is an area where those with whom I differ have helped me.
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. (Prov 27:17).

This blogging is risky business I find. You put a thought out there and invite others to interact with it. A couple of times I have gotten hammered (and in one instance that I remember quite well, deservedly so – – David Reimer had some fun with an unsupported comment I made).
But, the risk is worth it.
Well, Here I am finding myself agreeing entirely with a comment made by Peter on the atonement! I too am glad my blog helped, and also am anxious not to make Jesus a passive participant in the atonement or diminish his deity.
